St Hugh’s Anglican Church is a parish rich in history and faithful witness. It began in the 1930s as a chapelry of St Mary’s and gained full parish status in 1953. After three decades of dedicated fundraising, the foundation stone for our current church building was laid in 1955. Today, St Hugh’s remains a spiritual home and historic ‘mother church’ for Anglicans in the western suburbs of Port Elizabeth.
We are celebrating 100 years of ministry in Newton Park this year! 1925-2025.
We are a Christ-centred church, serving God in the power of the Holy Spirit, committed to sharing God’s love and God’s word with each other and the wider community.
We are a welcoming and diverse family of believers who have entered into the salvation of humankind through Jesus Christ. At St Hugh’s, you’ll find a place to grow in your faith, serve with joy, and walk together in community.
Our main service each week includes Junior Church during the service and ends with tea and coffee fellowship in the Mayo Hall.
A quiet, reflective Eucharist followed by tea and fellowship.
Our worship is structured and reverent, rooted in the Anglican liturgical tradition. Services include Scripture readings, heartfelt prayers, hymns, and the celebration of the Eucharist (Holy Communion).
